The phrase, “there is nothing to fear but fear itself” should probably read, “there is lots to fear but fuck it”. Just look around, when the Surgeon General isn’t warning us of the dangers of energy drinks, there is a maniac carrying an automatic rifle into a crow. In fact with the advent of social media this may be one of the most fearful times in human history. But so what, everyone dies in the end. However, so many of us forget that sweet spot right in the middle, you know, right after everything goes to shit and things start looking up. What separates the audience from the actors on screen is in many cases just a little bit of “fuck it”. Some of that good ol’ “fuck it, I can’t get a job because I have a criminal record so let me start recording music”. Perhaps some of the, “fuck it, I hate studying I would so much rather design my own t-shirts”. Or even in extreme cases, “fuck it, I have a really good idea and I’m going to succeed just so I can flip off everyone whoever said I wouldn’t make it. Fear is paralyzing, it keeps so many of us from reaching our potential because we worry what others may think, or the consequences of failure. We are the ones that empower fear so without our conscious thought fear does not exist. Derrick Rose is in Chicago right now, afraid to engage in an activity that he has excelled at nearly his entire life but I argue that it is only because he knows he is great. You see, we do not fear things that we know we can do, and those that we cannot do are simply referred to as impossible. I argue that we only fear when we have knowledge of imminent success, yet there is a grain of potential failure. But then isn’t it failure not to even try? Most of our heroes are those that persevere despite the potential for failure. Whether it be the brave knight slaying dragons as children or Jeremy Linsanity scoring 38 on Kobe and the Lakers. Those that go for it seem to have it all figured out so why is it that even today that so many of us fear the unknown? Even Nike says “Just Do It” and you should. So what you might fail, but you might succeed and if you are truly scared you will. No one wants to fail, and no one wants to be wrong and when our livelihood is on the line our adrenaline kicks in and mothers lift cars to save their infant sons. Im just saying, anything difficult I have ever done is now just a story, just a memory that I recall and laugh about because I am so far removed from the hell at the time. Put in work, take the necessary precautions and jump, both feet in. Otherwise, you might as well just buy a ticket because audience members never make it on stage and those that do are tackled by security. Everyone else, well you’re just a spectator unless of course you get invited backstage by the entourage, then you’re a groupie. Either way you will never be the star of the show.
Dont get it confused, Im not NOT blogging, Im just not impressed -Yours Truly
